Adriana Avalos Ph.D Treasurer
Ms. Avalos has a Ph.D. in Computer Science, a Master of Science in Finance, Master of Science in Computer Science, and a Bachelor in Computer Engineering. Her dissertation research, “Software Reliability Engineering was awarded in 2002 by Electronic Engineers (IEEE) International Symposium of Software Reliability Engineering”. Dr. Avalos has also participated as a role model for the Greater Washington Hispanic Youth Symposium 2005. She is a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Hispanic Professional Women’s Association (HPWA), MANA – A National Latina Organization, Las Comadres (an informal internet-based group. Laura Ramirez Drain Founder and President
Ms. Laura Drain has committed her career to serving the Hispanic community. She is founder and president of the Hispanic Professional Women Association (HPWA), an organization that she set up in 2003 to provide networking and career support for Hispanic professional women around the US. Ms. Drain was recognized for her work in 2005, as one of the Outstanding Women from across Alabama, selected by the Women Exchange, Inc. as a positive influence shaping the future of Alabama. In 2006 she started the Alcanzando Metas Foundation, an education foundation dedicated to serving Hispanic girls in their preparation for higher education and entry into 21st century careers. The Leadership of Greater Washington invited Ms. Drain to participate in the Class of 2007, and she is a certified trainer for 7 Habits for Teens. In 2008 she will join the National Leadership Institute (NHLI) to participate in its national leadership program. Ms. Drain has also set up two junior chapters of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). Before her efforts in the nonprofit sector, she worked in computer science for 15 years in Mexico, then transferred to Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked as a Sales Manager for Hewlett Packard, in charge of Latin America. She has a degree in Biochemistry Engineering, with master’s degrees in marketing and telecommunications. Contact ldrain@ametas.org
