The mentor program is titled “Transforming Latinas and Latinos: A Mentor Program Across Generations".
The Mentor Program pairs our After-School Program student participants with strong role models who provide them with a positive influence. Mentors help the participants reach their full potential. Mentors are carefully selected to inspire the students with the value of academics while providing guidance and motivation. Each mentor works one-on-one or with small groups of selected students.
What does a mentor do? A mentor provides support to a young person who can benefit from the guidance, friendship and life experience of the mentor. Mentoring allows the individuals involved to share experiences and learn from them while building a supportive relationship over time. In the Alcanzando Metas Foundation Mentoring Program, our focus will be on youth in our communities whose lives can be enriched through the guidance of an older, more experienced person.
Type of mentoring 1.Traditional Mentoring: One-on-one relationship 2.Group Mentoring: Group of up to four students 3.Team Mentoring: Several adults working with small groups of students 4.Peer Mentoring:Youth helping another youth 5.E-mentoring: Technology based

Why mentoring ? Men face many of the same career road blocks as women, but women come at those challenges from a different angle, so they need different kinds of support. Mentoring helps women, especially young women, overcome these blocks. In this century we see many leading women in today’s workforce taking the time to share their experience with young women just starting their careers. The former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, Lew Platt, believes in the value of mentoring, In a letter addressing HP’s K-12 program, Platt sees “educating our children as both a business and a social imperative. After all, the young faces we see today are the faces of the workforce and customers of tomorrow.” He recommends getting personally involved – “Speak to a class. Be a mentor for a student or teacher, either in person or by e-mail.”
