On behalf of the Hispanic Eastern Technical Career Institute, Inc. (HETCI), in cooperation with the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), I would like to invite you to participate in the 2008 Eastern Technical and Career Conference (ETCC) Pre-College Program, on February 21-24, 2008. ETCC 2008 will be held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport in Arlington VA.

HETCI is committed to increasing opportunities and recognition for Hispanics in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field. HETCI’s first objective, aimed at our SHPE student members, emphasizes the importance of providing a foundation of knowledge to pursue degrees in STEM fields. The second objective targets SHPE’s professionals and graduating seniors and emphasizes the significance of the foundation of experience gained through professional development, internships, and employment opportunities. The eastern regional conference format allows corporations, government agencies, and universities to support both objectives. These objectives are supported through presentations to our student membership and the career fair, which informs professionals and students about full-time positions and summer internships in STEM disciplines.

The 2008 ETCC Pre-College Program is an ideal opportunity for your school to participate in the event and for your students to interact with college students and corporate professionals. We expect to host 200 high school students in a very enriching experience, which provides the platform for a successful transition from high school to college. By exposing students to positive role models and information, we believe we can spark their interest and motivate them to pursue a degree in engineering or science. This is a lifetime opportunity since the conference is held annually at a different location throughout the east coast.
